Early Childhood Intervention

Early Childhood Intervention (ECI) is a specialised support for children aged 0-9 years who have a developmental delay or disability. The goal of ECI is to provide timely and individualised services to improve the child’s development, help them participate in everyday activities, and enhance their quality of life. The NDIS Early Childhood Early Intervention (ECEI) approach focuses on working with families and caregivers to provide the support needed to achieve the best outcomes for the child.

Key aspects of Early Childhood Intervention under the NDIS:

  1. Developmental Support: ECI includes therapies such as speech, occupational, and physiotherapy, designed to support children’s physical, cognitive, social, and emotional development.

  2. Family-Centred Approach: The NDIS emphasises the involvement of families in the child’s development process, offering guidance and strategies that families can use to support their child at home and in everyday life.

  3. Tailored, Individualised Plans: Support is designed around the child’s unique needs, focusing on improving their abilities and participation in community, social, and educational settings.

  4. Natural Environments: ECI services are often delivered in familiar, comfortable environments like the child’s home, childcare centre, or other community spaces to promote effective learning and growth.

The aim of NDIS Early Childhood Intervention is to provide children with the skills they need early in life, reducing the need for more intensive supports later on, and helping them to reach their full potential.
